Looking For An Alternative To In-Person Therapy?

Are you having trouble adapting to a world that seems to be constantly changing? Have feelings of sadness and isolation replaced your sense of peace and joy? Do you wish there was a way of receiving emotional support from the safety and comfort of your home?

You may be experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression, including panic, low self-esteem, and a lack of motivation. And instead of looking hopeful to the future, there may be a pervasive sense of dread, worry, and fear of the uncertainty ahead.

Maybe you feel as if your mental state and physical well-being are declining in equal measure. The many stressors impacting your daily life may have contributed to bodily discomfort, chronic pain, or fatigue. And perhaps it feels as though you lack the energy to complete certain tasks.

The bizarre and precarious nature of our times has caused a spike in anxiety, stress, compulsion, and addictions. And now, more than ever, access to mental health professionals is essential. Fortunately, the availability of online therapy has made the possibility of healing and relief even more attainable.

We Are Living In A Time Of Constant Fear And Uncertainty

The burden of stressors and worry about the future has always been a component of the human experience, but our current global health emergency has created even more reasons for anxiety, fear, and panic in daily life. We have all had to make sacrifices or been affected by COVID-19 in some way. And the social isolation, unpredictability, and grief associated with the pandemic have taken a toll on all of us.

Moreover, despite the progress we have made over the last few decades in combating the stigma attached to mental health, there still exists a certain level of shame or embarrassment for some when it comes to seeking support. We may feel as though we will be judged when being vulnerable or wondering why we can’t solve these problems on our own. But the truth is that asking for help makes us more human—not less.

If meaningful change without the perspective of outside help was easy, then everyone would be a more healed and content version of themselves. But harmony can be difficult to achieve; it requires learning how to become unstuck in certain habits and rewiring our brains.

Counseling is the first step towards self-improvement, and the availability of online therapy makes the process simpler, more accessible, and more comfortable from the privacy of your own home. Plus—let’s be real—therapy online removes the stress of a Dallas commute!

Online Therapy Can Help You Feel Safe And Find Peace

It can be hugely informative and helpful to gain the perspective of someone that is not a friend or family member when it comes to issues of your mental health. With the objective, unbiased, and nonjudgmental support of a therapist, you will be more likely to get clarity on the areas of your life that feel stuck or unresolved. And with the availability of online therapy, it’s easier to incorporate counseling into your routine while maintaining the security and comfort of your home’s familiar environment.

As a relationship-based therapist, I will begin online therapy sessions getting a sense of your needs and concerns. Our interactions will be based on your goals and how I can best serve you with my non-violent approach, meaning that I will never take you to a place where you don’t want to be. In following your lead, we are more likely to build trust throughout the process and ensure that you consistently feel safe and heard.

At the beginning of our time together, we will briefly discuss your history and gauge our fit to make sure that we have a suitable connection that promotes healing. My aim is to make your experience with therapy comfortable, coordinated, and even fun (when it’s appropriate, of course). I view the therapeutic process as being entirely centered on you so that you will never feel a sense of pressure or hidden agenda on my end.

Using talk therapy, I may sprinkle in some suggestions or exercises during our sessions, but I’ll mostly adhere to the path you are setting out for our time together and offer clarity and perspective as needed. If applicable, I will use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy during our online sessions. EMDR is a scientifically validated form of somatic, relationship-based therapy—using auditory or visual cues to help facilitate calm and healing in your nervous system—that can help you with feeling less burdened by stress, trauma, and anxiety.

Depending on any other needs you may have, I will draw on my background in behavioral therapy to help you change negative beliefs you may have about yourself and the world around you. I also have training in art therapy, which makes use of your creative side in order to process your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Whatever it is that you may need out of online therapy, I am prepared to tailor my approach to jumpstart your journey to healing.

Since 2014, I have witnessed the tremendous power an effective therapeutic alliance between client and counselor can have. In seeing my clients heal from trauma, grief, and distress, I have come to understand that nothing is hopeless, and anything is possible. And in fact, I have fostered such wonderful relationships with my clients that many of them have stayed with me throughout the course of my career.

I am confident that during our time together, you will find heightened self-awareness and self-acceptance—understanding that it is okay if you’re not okay. You are never alone in this process. Healing begins anywhere. And with the availability of online therapy, it can begin here and now!

Perhaps you are considering online counseling sessions, but you have some concerns…

I don’t have the time or money for online therapy.

Concerns about time and money are valid. However, I encourage you to view therapy as an investment in yourself and your future. By recognizing your inner strengths and abilities, you will have the opportunity to improve your relationships, your quality of life, and your work performance. As such, you will save yourself time and money in the long run by avoiding the chronic emotional, mental, and physical issues associated with unresolved distress.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

Absolutely! I have found that conducting therapy sessions online has just as much efficacy as doing them in person. While there are certainly perks to developing an in-person relationship, I believe clients are more comfortable and thus open to being vulnerable when they can engage in sessions from the security of their home. Moreover, I think it allows both client and therapist to be more flexible in scheduling (and avoiding that dang commute!).

What platforms do you use for online counseling sessions? Are they safe and secure?

I use either doxy.me or Zoom for online sessions. Both are safe, secure, and HIPAA compliant. All you need is an internet connection and a device through which we can speak to one another.
