Is Anxiety Affecting Your Career, Life, And Personal Relationships?
Are you feeling lost, sad, or fearful, and don’t understand why? Do you wonder if traumatic experiences from the past, such as abandonment, abuse, or neglect, are impacting your relationships in the present? Is it difficult for you to maintain healthy relationships because you struggle to connect with others?
Perhaps you’re feeling stressed at work or having a hard time keeping up with your responsibilities because you lack focus or confidence in your ability to do your job. Maybe self-doubt is causing you to feel inadequate and unsure of yourself and you might be fearful of how your life is going to play out if you can’t find a way to cope with fear and anxiety.
Anxiety has a way of disrupting nearly every aspect of a person’s life. You may be isolating yourself from others because you feel you can’t be a part of any social network. And though you want the support, you might be scared to share what you’re going through with others for fear they’ll judge you or won’t understand.
Making things more difficult, constant worry and negative thoughts may be keeping you up at night. Or you might be waking up feeling stressed and preoccupied about the day ahead. Perhaps you’re experiencing physical ailments, such as chronic pain or autoimmune issues as a result of always being on-edge and unable to relax. Stress and anxiety may also be causing panic attacks, depression, irritability, or relationship problems.
Are you looking for a way to manage your fear and anxiety so that you can connect with others, rebuild your confidence, and start living with greater ease and peace of mind?
It’s Common To Experience Some Anxiety
We all go through difficult times. And experiencing concerns about your children, partner, or your job can signal how important they are to you. However, when persistent fear and worry disrupt your life, they can prevent you from building a meaningful and positive existence for yourself.
The roots of anxiety are often diverse. You may have experienced childhood trauma that could have led to the development of anxiety. For example, individuals who’ve experienced neglect or emotional or physical abuse in early life may have developed anxiety from being exposed to traumatic and stressful situations. As a result, during adulthood, they might be struggling with attention-seeking behaviors or avoiding socializing for fear of not being accepted by others. Some may have developed harmful behaviors such as an eating disorder or substance abuse.
Or a series of disappointments or troubled relationships may have caused you to begin struggling with anxious thoughts and behaviors. In today’s society, pressures to project a certain image may be causing you to try to live up to impossible standards or expectations, which might be contributing to increased feelings of anxiety and overall dissatisfaction with your life.
Chronic anxiety can be devastating to those who experience it often. It can also be causing you to avoid meaningful life activities and perhaps keeping you from taking your life to the next level. You might be suffering in silence for fear of what others may say or think. Perhaps you don’t think you need support to cope with your anxiety because on the surface you’re able to function from day-to-day. Or maybe you’ve sought help in the past but you weren’t able to identify the root of the issues, and any benefits you gained from learning new coping techniques to control difficult emotions where short-lived.
Fortunately, treatment for anxiety can help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, and give you the skills you need to manage your symptoms.
Anxiety Treatment Can Help You Reclaim Control Of Your Life
I strive to provide a safe and non-judgmental environment where you can feel comfortable sharing your challenges. My genuine, empathetic approach will allow me to begin to establish a trusting relationship with you, which is important to our therapeutic process. Once you feel comfortable, therapy can be a great place to get to the heart of your anxiety so you can move beyond managing symptoms and begin working toward profound, sustainable healing.
During our first sessions, we’ll set goals to start addressing your most distressing symptoms so that you can begin to experience some emotional relief from the start. My golden retriever Gibson, a support dog, can be present during sessions. He’s been a welcoming source of comfort for many of my clients.
To access the root of your symptoms, I believe the most important step will be to gain an awareness of situations that trigger your anxiety. Being mindful of the present moment creates an opportunity for healing and growth. It can lead us to identify harmful behaviors that might be affecting your relationships or keeping you from living a calm and peaceful life.
I draw from various evidence-based modalities based on individual needs. My training is in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). This approach to therapy enables your brain to resolve traumatic memories so that you can begin to self-regulate thoughts, emotions, and behaviors resulting from distressing feelings or situations. I also draw from the Somatic therapy approach which allows you to pay attention to the physical responses of these memories and experiences, and develop techniques to relieve your symptoms.
I’ve been helping my clients manage their anxiety symptoms for over four years, and I know that with the right support, healing is possible. Whatever your situation is, therapy can help you learn how to tolerate distress and change the way you think and behave so you are no longer simply reacting to triggers. With the help of an experienced anxiety counselor, you’ll be able to start experiencing joy in your life and relationships.
You May Have Some Concerns About Anxiety Therapy…
I’m worried therapy is going to make me feel worse.
It can be tempting to hope that anxiety will take care of itself, but ignoring it may only prolong the suffering and ensures that it has a space to grow. Besides, what better place to share your challenges than with an expert anxiety treatment counselor? I can help you gain awareness of your issues in a safe, comfortable setting so that you can learn to manage them and attain a greater sense of control in your life.
I don’t want to feel vulnerable.
I know it’s not easy letting people into your personal space or perhaps admitting that you need support. However, counseling will allow you the freedom to work on emotions that may be keeping you from living an enriched and joyful life. You can find acceptance, healing, and self-actualization with the right anxiety treatment. Seeking support from a professional does not mean that you aren’t strong; it means that you’re wise and self-aware. During sessions, we’ll work on creating a treatment plan that will help you confront your feelings and emotions to manage them in healthier ways.
I’ve tried treatment for anxiety in the past and I feel it didn’t help.
A positive connection between you and your therapist is essential to foster change and growth. My approach to therapy is welcoming, safe, and free of criticism and shame. I believe that healing begins when you’re ready, and this might be the right time for you. Therapy is not simply about talking about your problems but setting practical goals and identifying concrete steps to heal and improve your life.
